The cedars we plant (Emerald and Pyramidalis Cedars as well as a few varieties of Western Red Cedars) can grow up to 40ft in height! Sound a little intimidating for your backyard? Don’t worry. Remember you are in control of your cedar trees and through regular trimming you can keep them at any height you please (as long as it’s within your city bylaws of course).
On average, you can expect your cedar trees to grow upwards of a foot per year. If you want a tall privacy fence, you will have a large amount of shade from it.
Be sure not to plant other plants/shrubs too close to your cedar hedging too avoid stunting the growth due to lack of sunlight.
