Methods of growing

Field Grown Cedars

As its name implies, cedar trees are grown and harvested from a field

Pros

  • Most common and easiest form of growing and maintaining
  • Produces the biggest trees

 

Cons

  • Tree subject to higher degree of transplant shock if dug improperly

 

Container Grown Cedars

Cedar trees are grown in a pot or a container of various sizes (4” liners to 15-20gal containers)

 

Pros

  • Safest method of planting
  • Little to no transplant shock as roots are never cut
  • Easier to handle/plant

 

Cons

  • Sizes limited by container
  • Not suitable for growing larger sized trees (ie. 7’ +)
  • Tree’s may become ‘root bound’ if grown too long in pots
